Location
The Hotel Ristorante Casina Copini is a pretty structure in Spongano, near Santa Cesarea Terme and Castro. These two towns in Puglia offer a wonderfully surprising scenario with rocky coasts, prehistoric grottos and breathtakingly high cliffs overlooking the sea.
Spongano
This is a medieval village which dates back to the Bronze Age and it boasts the important “Piedi Grandi” (Big Foot) Dolmen, a megalithic monument which reminds us of the town’s ancient origins.
The main altar in the Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio (Church of the mother of St. George) is dedicated to Santa Vittoria, the patron saint of Spongano. The Capella dell’Immacolata and the Castle of the Bacile di Castiglione are also famous attractions.
During the month of December, the “Le Panare” festa is celebrated with an archaic ritual for an abundant harvest: everyone eats and drinks around bonfires and dances to the exciting rhythm of local folk music.
